Brixen Book Days
Brixen, 23rd – 28th April 2018
See, read, listen, buy and create books. Love books! This is the slogan of the Brixen Book Days that will take place for the first time in 2018. As in the bishop’s city everything will be in the spotlight of books and invites you to lose yourself in the world of books and find yourself again.
Following the World Book Day on 23rd April, the city centre of Brixen celebrates its cultural heritage in the library and publishing sector, the printing as well as the bookbinding sector with an event which deals with the topic Book in its variety and highlights it in manifold ways.
For the duration of the Brixen Book Days, there will be held a book market open to the public and can be considered as a space for exchange, a place where one lingers and plunges for some time into the world of books. The book market on Cathedral Square Brixen is realized in collaboration with the South Tyrolean publishers.
The slogan Read books signals different places in the city where books are and can be read, at sites that due to their cultural and historical importance have influenced and shaped the cultural heritage as well as the social life of Brixen. Examples therefore are the Diocesan Archives, the library of the Seminary, the public library, but also the former jail of the city, the Dekadenz or the Pharmacy Museum of the Peer family in Adlerbrücken alley.
The Brixen Book Days offer the possibility to get an insight into the creation of books. Together with the manufacturers of the city centre, the binding as well as the printing is presented and explained also to the smallest visitors.
Listen to books, will be possible at the audio stations, which invite you to sit down and to briefly plunge into parallel worlds that offer new perspectives. Unusual insights in the book are available at a visit at the Civic Gallery. The special exhibition of Book Art Art Book is realized in collaboration with the South Tyrolean Artists’ Association.
Next to the flea book market, a swapping market and a cinema presentation, there is also a programme for our small visitors: book clubbing, fairy tales and puppet theatre should get kids familiar with the topic and show them the endless variety of the world of books.
The detailed programme will shortly follow!
