Originally from the German city of Kiel, painter Julia Bornefeld lives and works in Brunico/Bruneck and Berlin. Graduating from the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung in Kiel, Bornefeld studied at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Venice and the Akademija Likovna Umjetnost in Ljubljana. Her works have been widely acclaimed, receiving awards such as the Joe-und-Xaver-Fuhr-Preis (1990), the Förderpreis des Landes Schleswig-Holstein (1990), the Gottfried Brockmann Prize of the City of Kiel (1991) and the Icona Art in Vienna (2006).
Bornefeld has exhibited in various international galleries and museums, contributing works to art collections such as the Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum, the Stadtgalerie Kiel, Museion in Bolzano/Bozen, the Lentos Art Museum in Linz, Art Gallery in Nova Scotia to name a few.
