History of Bressanone
History of Bressanone
As early as 10,000 years ago human beings lived in the Bressanone basin. The first settlements date back to the Neolithic period. The “Pressena” recorded in a deed in 828 AD probably refers to Bressanone. In 901 AD Bressanone is recorded as “Meierhof Prihsna” in a Donation of Carolingian Louis IV to Bishop Zacharia of Sabiona.
Location and city map of Bressanone
Bressanone is situated at the confluence of the rivers Isarco and Rienza, nestling in a wide basin halfway between Bolzano and the Brenner Pass. In terms of climate, Bressanone is the beginning of the South: Grapes, chestnuts and apples thrive here.

On the tracks of a unique element of life
Water is life. We will explore nature and follow the tracks of two special watercourses: the creek Schalderer Bach and the creek Spilucker Bach. Through the flow of the water we clear our head and feel what the noise of the water causes with us. From the healing and decelerating green of the forest we hike to the ruin Salern where a water tasting of a different kind awaits us.

During this pleasant walk along the lovely nature of Natz-Schabs, we get to discover the various wildlife that the high plateau has to offer. Along biotopes we will hopefully catch a glimpse of rare species.
Walking in a natural environmental, which allows us to inhale the fresh breeze, contributes to our overall health and has a positive impact on not just our body but also our mind, spirit and soul.
Forest bathing at Gudon/Chiusa
Experience the nature with all the senses. We enjoy the time for ourselves. There is no goal to reach. Let us be inspired by nature and immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of the forest of Gudon-Chiusa with the primary elements of light, water, earth and air. In the course of our journey we use the materials of nature to create our messages of nature.

Green Event
Green Event
This year the Water Light Festival stands as certified "Green Event" in South Tyrol as a venue for sustainability. The focus is on the use of energy from renewable sources, environmentally friendly products and digital advertising campaigns. It would be nice if you too could help to make our festival a more ecologically compatible event, e.g. by making your journey to us more environmentally friendly.
International Day of Light
The "International Day of Light" is celebrated for the first time this year: Numerous events around the world are intended to raise awareness of the importance of light and its role in different areas such as science, medicine, art and in communication.
The International Day of Light, proclaimed by UNESCO, takes place every year on May 16th, the anniversary of the first successful operation of the laser in 1960 by physicist and engineer, Theodore Maiman. The laser is a perfect example of how scientific discovery can yield revolutionary benefits to society in different areas.

All events relating to the theme “light” can be viewed on the webpage www.lightday.org
Of course, the water light festival which takes place from 10 to 26 May in Brixen is also part of this global network.

Drawing contest
Drawing contest
Last year, in cooperation with the company Stadtwerke Brixen, around 300 pupils from elementary and secondary schools in Brixen took part in the drawing and painting competition of the Water Light Festival.

Displaying their creativity, observation and sense of imagination, the children portrayed their interactions with water. This year the pupils are set to remain on the same theme, focusing on “perspectives of water in Brixen” through their color drawings and paintings.

Project description
Winter tourism is a significant economic factor and an important employer in the program area. Although, there is an urgent need for the diversification of winter tourism products. Evidence-based health tourism offers a variety of strategic development opportunities. The project WinHealth aims at valorizing the health tourism potential in terms of Alpine natural & cultural resources. In a cross-border cooperation, innovative economic value chains & business models will be developed, which shall not replace snow-related offers, but complement them. A broad-based cross-border qualification & know-how transfer initiative stimulates SME- & destination-driven innovation in terms of health tourism and strengthens their knowledge base. In this way, health tourism is positioned as strategic development factor for the diversification of Alpine winter tourism offers in the program area.
