Entry & exit to Italy

Entry and exit to Italy/South Tyrol
From 3 June, citizens of the European Union and the Schengen area will be allowed to enter Italy without having to go into quarantine for 2 weeks afterwards in their own country.

At present, special rules for entry and exit apply. Entry into Italy is only permitted if there is evidence of travel for professional purposes, health reasons or other absolute necessity. This must be confirmed by a self-declaration. Persons travelling from Italy to Austria must present a medical certificate of a negative test for COVID-19 not older than four days. Transit without a stopover in Austria is permitted. Germany and Switzerland carry out checks at their respective national borders.

DB - OEBB
The ban for cross-border traffic applies to both individual traffic and public transport. As a result, there are currently no regional or long-distance trains and buses between South Tyrol and Austria. For the latest information, please contact the relevant bus or train company. (Timetables)

Trenitalia
The Italian railway company Trenitalia is again offering 60 percent of the capacity of the normal service. From 18 May, normal service will again be offered almost entirely.

Local public transport in South Tyrol
The buses will again be operating throughout South Tyrol according to the weekday timetable. However, due to protective measures, less than half of the usual passengers can currently be transported, which is why rush hours should be avoided. Wearing a mouth and nose protector on public transport is mandatory. In addition, only the designated seats on the buses may be used. A minimum distance must always be maintained when entering and leaving the bus and when waiting. Tickets cannot currently be purchased in the vehicles but must be purchased in advance at the various sales stations.
Urban and regional buses across South Tyrol and the Rittner Seilbahn cable car are running on their weekday schedule. Current bus and rail schedules are available here.
