Horizon Deep - Silvia Hell & Nicola Ratti

Vernissage: April 26, 2022, 7:00 p.m.
Duration: 29.4. - 22.5.2022

Opening hours:
Tuesday to Thursday 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m. / 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Friday 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m./ 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m./ 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m./ 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Sunday 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

It all starts with the question of where there is no light - "lì dove la luce non arriva". Silvia Hell has been studying the phenomenon of light for quite some time now and is now delving even deeper into it: into the depths of the sea.

With an evocative impulse, Silvia Hell and musician Nicola Ratti have imagined "measuring" the Piazza del Duomo in Bressanone by recording the echoes and reverberations generated within it by simple acoustic percussion instruments. These sounds, like sonar, allow us to perceive the dimensions, distances and depths of the square itself; the urban landscape thus becomes, metaphorically, a landscape of the depths of the sea. These sounds, composed in audio tracks, form the sound element combined with the three video installations that Silvia Hell creates from documentaries on biodiversity and bioluminescence in the ocean depths which visitors of Brixen Water Light Festival © can watch and listen to in the Civic Gallery. The Gallery is thus transformed into a sensory experience as a metaphor for the largely unexplored ecosystem of the ocean depths.

Light is one of the most versatile phenomena in our universe and is inseparable from darkness. Manifestations of light and darkness accompany our lives in an infinite number of facets. Melting Future

29th of April - 22nd of May 2022
Brixen Tourism

Leonhard Angerer often dreams of snow. This is probably why he has been exploring the snowy Alps in North and South Tyrol and Trentino with his camera for 20 years. Avoiding the help of cable cars, he hauls the equipment up to the heights. His focus is on climate change, his favourite subject is snow and the eternal ice. Glaciers, as is well known, contribute to the water supply of settlements. Glacier researchers expect almost complete melting before the end of this century, with devastating consequences for the water regime of rivers as well as for agriculture, tourism and skiing.

The glacier pictured here is representative of the 5000 glaciers in the Alpine region that are threatened by global warming. An oversized white cloth shows the desperate and at the same time useless attempt to prevent the melting of the glacier; it becomes the shroud of a denatured landscape hostile to life.

Elisa Barison has given the photographic work the title "Melting Future". The future threat only becomes truly comprehensible through this image title.
