MUTOID WASTE COMPANY | WATER (F)LIGHT

Schenoni Areal

As part of the Water Light Festival 2026, Nikki Rifiutile Rodgerson, Lucia Freya Pansecchi, and Luca Montagner from MWC, together with local artists and organisations, are creating a large interactive sculpture. The flight of a heron is depicted using recycled materials. Since antiquity, this water bird has been a symbol of rebirth and is closely linked to the connection between water and light: consecrated to the sun god in ancient Egypt, its return to the Nile symbolised fertility and abundance. The reuse of waste materials is also a process of constant renewal—an attitude that has always defined MWC and is brought here into a dialogue with local participants.

Mutoid Waste Company

Italy

MWC (Mutoid Waste Company) is an international artist collective working exclusively with recycled materials. This results in a wide range of sculptures, installations, fire performances, workshops, and other projects. Their base in Italy, Mutonia near Rimini, is an open-air museum where they live, work, and exhibit their original pieces. Mutonia is open 365 days a year. Nikki Rifiutile has been an active and permanent member of the collective since the group’s arrival in Italy in 1990.
