Stufels – Stufles

Julia Dantonnet is a French artist born in 1980. Her lighting creations for public spaces are closely linked to a place, its architecture or history. Faced with the ubiquity of digital technologies, she seeks other ways of making images by developing simple and poetic lighting devices inspired by ancient techniques that reveal the mechanisms of illusion.

For the Water Light Festival 2024, she developed the work Source, which can be seen in Stufels. This site-specific light installation plays with the mysterious and often overlooked presence of fountains in the city.

Through the artist's projection, a floating carousel appears to rise from the depths of the fountain in Stufels. Mystical shadows invite you on a fantasy journey into a dreamlike underwater world full of real or imaginary creatures. The projections float above the facades around the fountain and create the feeling of being underwater yourself, which is further emphasised by a soundscape of siren songs.
