Tilen Sepič
Light Oscillator

Adlerbrücke – Ponte Aquila

Tilen Sepič is a multidisciplinary artist and designer from Slovenia working in the fields of new media, lighting design, product design and audio-visual light installations. After a decade of experience in industrial design and production, Sepič's focus has naturally shifted to artistic practices. He is primarily interested in the experience behind an object, revealing its functions and materials. His current work mainly explores whether the effects of artificial light on our brain and mood are the same as those of natural light.

As part of the Water Light Festival 2024, the artist is presenting the kinetic light sculpture Light Oscillator in the river Eisack, near the Adlerbrücke bridge. The work was developed in 2016 and is now being adapted to its surroundings in Brixen. It is based on observations and experiments on frequencies and oscillations in nature, i.e. circular movements that can be found in a variety of natural systems: in atoms, the movement of the planets, biological time, the seasons and other cycles and processes of animals and plants.

To literally bring these usually hidden processes to light, the artist has developed a moving and abstract sculpture consisting of minimalist, floating light objects. These constantly oscillate in a cone-shaped movement over the stream of the Eisack, illuminating the riverbed, its brightness and fragility.

The artist's aim is to emphasise the sacredness of this pure mountain water and to remind viewers and residents of the often unnoticed beauty and value of this water.
