Charly Nijensohn
Ancient Seas That have Vanished
Engelsburg – Castel Sant‘Angelo
Site-specific modules of existing series
Charly Nijensohn is an Argentinian artist who is self-taught in the media of photography and video art. In his work, he focuses on the tensions between human existence and its environment, using desolate and remote landscapes as a poetic backdrop for his photos and videos.
His video works are created in deserted landscapes. The video works in Neustift Monastery are based on photographs taken in the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, one of the world's largest salt flats, and in the Amazon rainforest. The artist's theme is the tension between man and nature. He contrasts the selected environments with isolated, shadowed human figures. The works of art thematise forlornness, hopelessness and an apocalyptic mood.
