GRAYZ (Moritz Brunner und Georg Ladurner)
Self-luminous Creatures

Pharmaziemuseum – Museo della Farmacia

GRAYZ is an audiovisual artist duo, consisting of Moritz Brunner and Georg Ladurner, which deals with the creation of experimental and futuristic visualisations and digital art. By combining aesthetics, technology and philosophies of cultural context, Georg and Moritz develop challenging visual worlds. They create atmospheres and immersive spaces paired with pulsating frequencies.

Moritz Brunner is a South Tyrolean artist whose range of media extends from the traditional, such as drawing and painting, to sculpture, composition, animation and programming.

Georg Ladurner is a South Tyrolean architect specialising in computer architecture and design. For many years, Ladurner has also been working on ecological construction methods. Applied computer science helps him to find efficient solutions to architectural questions and to organise his aesthetics in the relationship between nature and machine.

As part of the Water Light Festival 2024, GRAYZ is showing the work Self-luminous Creatures, in which it explores the bioluminescence of individual creatures. This describes the property of generating a warning light signal. Tiny creatures are put into a high-energy state by a chemical reaction. Two biological substances meet and generate small pulses of light. The artists depict this process in transparent objects filled with a liquid full of self-luminous protozoa. This liquid is pumped through transparent tubes, stimulating the numerous microorganisms to emit light pulses. This creates a play of light that immerses visitors in this special world.
