ENGELSBURG – CASTEL SANT’ANGELO - Castle of the Holy Angel

Installation
2011 — 2024
Site-specific adaptation of an existing series

Rosmarie Weinlich is a German artist who works primarily with the media of painting and installation. She is always concerned with social and natural phenomena, the transient and the becoming, dissolution and re-creation.
This focus is also reflected in the two works that will be shown as part of the Water Light Festival 2024: Anima and Habitat.

The "Habitat" installation consists of a series of luminous objects that are freely suspended in the room. The glass bulbs in the shape of light bulbs are home to sundew plants (Droseraceae). They are filled with a nutrient solution and are supplied with light. Although the sundew can adapt to nutrient-poor environments, the plants can only survive for a limited time in an airless biotope. The installation shows the different stages of the plants' adaptation processes.

Installation
2012 — 2024
Site-specific adaptation of an existing series

The "Anima" installation consists of a large number of glass bulbs in the shape of historical light bulbs. Various inorganic crystals grow very slowly in these bulbs over very long periods of time. Crystals have special physical properties that are used in modern communication and media technology. Modern microelectronics, such as those used in household appliances, smartphones, power supplies and vehicles, rely on crystals. The installation illustrates a natural material that has become an everyday technical building material.
