How to get here
Brixen is located in the heart of South Tyrol and can be easily reached by train, bus, plane or car. It is accessible via the Brenner Pass from the north, via Bolzano/Bozen from the south and through the Pustertal valley from the east. Here you can find everything you need to know to plan your journey.

Let the train take the strain
Brixen can be reached easily and comfortably by train. The station is located just a few minutes’ walk from the old town. And if you have heavy luggage, you can simply hop on a bus from the station to the town and its surrounding villages.
Flexibility and comfort when travelling
Travellers can book the transfer from the train station, the bus stop or the airport to more than 9,000 accommodations in South Tyrol via the portal Südtirol Transfer online. Südtirol Transfer will pick you up and take you directly to your South Tyrolean holiday accommodation. At the end of your holiday the service will also take you back to the bus stop.
Via Book Your Shuttle, you can as well book individual shuttles until 48 hours before the planned trip online – including airport transfers and day trips.
The bus can make a short stop of max. 15 minutes in Regensburger Allee to drop off and pick up passengers. For the rest of the day, the bus can park in car park 3 on Schilfweg (Sportplatz Süd, next to Disco Max, a day ticket of 25,00€ is required).
Heading to Brixen by car
If you’re travelling to Brixen by car, the best route to take is via the A22 Brenner motorway (take the Brixen/Bressanone exit if you are travelling from the north and the Klausen/Chiusa exit from the south). From here, the roads are well signposted so it should be easy to find your accommodation.
There is plenty of parking in the town, including free and charged car parks.
Italian motorways are subject to a toll. To avoid queuing at the toll booths, you can buy a Telepass from the private company Tolltickets. You can choose to have your Telepass posted to you or you can collect it from a pick-up station.

Flying to Brixen
The closest airports are Innsbruck to the north, Venice and Verona to the south. South Tyrol is less than two hours by car from Verona and Innsbruck.Additional airports in the area include: Munich, Treviso, Bergamo and Milan.
South Tyrol airport is located at Bozen. South Tyrol’s Bozen Dolomiten regional airport is located on the southern outskirts of the capital city. Direct flights to Bozen are currently available from Rome, Berlin or Düsseldorf.

Getting to Brixen and local travel
A car is not essential for the old town, railway station and many excursions. Short distances are easy on foot, while buses and trains serve villages, Mount Plose and other destinations. A car can be helpful for remote accommodation or very early and late outings. Before booking, check the nearest stop and service times.
The old town is a walk of a few minutes to around a quarter of an hour from the station, depending on your destination, pace and luggage. Town buses also run from the station to different districts and villages. With heavy luggage, a pushchair or limited mobility, check a suitable bus or taxi connection in advance.
Brixen can be reached by train, long-distance and regional bus, or via the Brenner motorway. The train is particularly convenient because the station is close to the old town and many local destinations are accessible on foot or by bus. A car offers more flexibility in remote areas but requires planning for parking, traffic and seasonal road conditions.
Car parks and public parking areas are available within walking distance of the old town. Access, charges, maximum stay and availability vary by facility. Allow extra time during events, market days and the Christmas season, and consider park-and-ride or public transport. Always follow the signs and current conditions displayed on site.
The Brixen Südtirol Guest Pass includes public transport for guests staying at participating accommodation, subject to the current benefits. It covers many buses and regional trains, while special or cross-border services may follow different rules. Before travelling, check the validity, activation and exact coverage of your pass.
Depending on your travel connections, you can choose from airports in South Tyrol (Bolzano), northern Italy (Verona, Bergamo and Venice), Austria (Innsbruck) and southern Germany (Munich). From there, you can continue to Brixen by train, long-distance coach, hire car or a pre-booked transfer. Don't base your choice on distance alone – compare flight schedules, transfer times, baggage policies and the last available connection to your accommodation.
Buses are not permitted to enter Brixen's historic old town. Groups should check the designated drop-off points, bus parking, access regulations and the walking route to their destination in advance. Buses may stop for up to 15 minutes on Regensburger Allee to allow passengers to board and alight. For the rest of the day, buses can park at Car Park P3 on Schilfweg (South Sports Ground, next to Disco Max). A daily parking ticket (€25.00) is required.
